Kalabahi, Alor NTT (aksaraindonesia.id) – Recent clashes between residents in Alor Regency have drawn concern from East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Deputy Governor Jhoni Asadoma. As a native son of Alor, Asadoma underscored the importance of safeguarding harmony and brotherhood in the region, long regarded as the “Island of Brotherhood,” a legacy of its ancestors.

The deputy governor delivered this message during a series of official engagements in Kalabahi on Friday (Sept. 19), ranging from the distribution of food aid and the opening of the Governor’s Cup Boxing Championship, to the launch of the 2025 IKM Festival and a coordination meeting on conflict resolution, before departing for Kupang via Mali Airport.

Speaking to Aksara Indonesia, Asadoma stressed that recent tensions should serve as a lesson for the community. “Conflicts must not be repeated. How can a region progress without peace, safety, and stability?” he remarked.

Proud to return to his homeland, Asadoma urged residents not to be provoked into hostility, saying that such disputes only bring harm. He further called on religious and traditional leaders, as well as local government and security officials, to actively guide young people away from destructive behavior.

In his address to students and youth, Asadoma encouraged them to focus on education and seize opportunities to excel. “Keep learning and achieving. Make Alor proud. As a son of Alor, I have carried the name of this island onto the world stage through boxing and later in the police force, where I rose to the rank of general—all for Alor,” he said.

Concluding his visit, the deputy governor appealed to all Alorese to reflect on their heritage and preserve the values of unity. “Let us keep Alor as the Island of Brotherhood, a legacy from our ancestors that we must protect together for a better future,” Asadoma affirmed.
